How to Protect Your Skin from the Sun

• Avoid deliberate sunbathing and tanning salons.
• Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and hair.
• Add sunglasses to protect your eyes (they can get burned too!) and protective clothing, whenever possible.
• Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15.
• Be careful about reflected or “bouncing” radiation, reflected off sand, snow or concrete. Even if you’re under an umbrella, protect yourself with an SPF 15 sunblock.
• Avoid the sun altogether between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
• Beware hot days, since heat intensifies the effects of UV rays.
• Don’t forget that to protect yourself in the winter too–when sun is reflected off glaring snow, and thin mountain air increases the chance of a burn.
