Caring for Your Skin after Laser
Resurfacing or Chemical Peel

You’ve actually had the old, top layers ‘peeled away’ to let the new skin underneath come to the surface. It takes time to heal afterwards. And during the recovery period, your skin will go through various stages of healing. At certain points you may even think your skin has gotten worse!

Of course, you should always check with your physician if you have any questions or concerns about how your skin looks and feels. But if everything is proceeding normally, your role will be to give your skin the special care it needs to heal.

Moist Healing is the Key...
Skin heals best in a moist environment. You can help give it the daily hydration it requires by applying Aquaphor® Healing Ointment while your skin is first recovering. Aquaphor helps reduce redness, relieve the itchiness of healing dry skin, and prevent blistering and scab/crust formation by keeping the healing environment moist.

Aquaphor is fragrance-free, preservative-free and non-sensitizing–so safe, it’s recommended for use on compromised skin. And it’s clinically proven to help skin heal, so you look and feel better faster.

Keeping the Healing on Track...
After the first few weeks your doctor will likely switch you to a lighter moisturizer, such as Eucerin Original Creme or Lotion. Apply it every day after cleansing for highly effective, fragrance-free, colorant-free and irritant-free moisturizing of your healing skin.

Gentle Cleansing Helps
While your skin is healing–and even after!–keep it clean by gently cleansing with either lukewarm water alone or a mild soap or cleanser, such as Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. Eucerin Cleanser is hypoallergenic, non-irritating, soap-free and preservative-free, so it’s less likely to irritate even raw or broken skin.

And remember–pat skin dry with a light touch and your softest towel. Rubbing can cause irritation.

Here Comes the Sun...
UVA and UVB rays can cause photodamage to the skin whatever the season–and your skin is especially vulnerable to this damage after any type of laser treatment or chemical peel. Use a sunblock that’s SPF 15 or higher year-round, every day to protect your brand-new skin and keep it looking good.

Eucerin Extra Protective Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 is a good choice to protect your skin–it’s fragrance-free and non-sensitizing. And it provides the broad-spectrum protection from UV rays your new face needs.
